A double-blind randomized study of the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of a 10-mcg and a 20-mcg dose of lot of the Smith Kline-RIT recombinant DNA yeast-derived hepatitis h vaccine was conducted in young adults without markers of previous hepatitis B infection. Immunization was carried out according to a 0-, 1-, and 6-month vaccination schedule.
Results indicated that the yeast-derived hepatitis B vaccine was of low reactogenicity :and high immunogenicity. Reactogenicity to the yeast-derived vaccine was low in incidence and general reactions were short-lasting and mainly mild in severity. By (Re month after the third vaccine dose, the yeast-derived vaccine had induced a 100% seroc reversion rate in both groups. The anti-HBs geometric mean rebched 1246 and 1139.5 in he groups receiving the 10-and 20-mcg vaccine dose, respectively.
